About Dr. Barthel

Steven Barthel, MD is a skilled physician specializing in addiction medicine. 5 years ago he began to search for a way to practice medicine where his heart lies.  He found his passion in helping men and women end their struggles with addictions to alcohol, opioids, and other substances. He now provides comprehensive, integrative treatment for addiction to patients at Northshore Health in Bothell, Washington.

Dr. Barthel designs personalized care plans that help patients end their dependence on opioids, alcohol, and benzodiazepine medications. Utilizing clinically proven methods, he medically supervises and eases withdrawal symptoms during detox from addictive substances. Through a partnership with the Coleman Institute, Dr. Barthel offers accelerated detox programs to qualifying patients.

Dr. Barthel designs detailed recovery support plans for all his patients, recommending both 12-step and non-12-step programs, and mental health services to provide maximum support during the long-term recovery process.

Dr. Barthel obtained his medical degree from Vanderbilt University. He completeted his training in ENT at the UW but then found his passion in Addiction Medicine. Since obtaining his Board Certification in Addiction Medicine,  he has been practicing at Northshore Health. 

Away from the office, Dr. Barthel enjoys spending time hiking with his dogs Willow and Walter, skiing and wood turning.
